We prefer our growth to come from within, and we view our clerk program as an opportunity to get to know summer associates on both a professional and personal level.  Our summer clerk program provides associates with valuable professional and personal experiences that they can draw on throughout their career.

The Interview Process

Our law clerk program is available to students currently enrolled in one of the four law schools in Louisiana. Deutsch Kerrigan representatives interview prospective law clerks on campus, and students selected for interviews meet with two of our attorneys for a twenty minute interview.  Following campus interviews, selected students are invited to attend an informal cocktail party at our New Orleans office allowing candidates the opportunity to meet other firm members, tour our office, as well as allowing us to provide additional information about the firm.

If you are an out-of-state law student planning a visit to New Orleans and would like to be considered for an interview with us, please send a cover letter with your resume and your most current grade transcript to one of the Recruiting Committee members listed.

About the Program

During your clerkship, summer associates spend time researching and analyzing legal issues and preparing documents and pleadings. Summer associates witness first-hand law practice situations and participate in activities including attending depositions, trials, mediations, and other non-research activities.

Law Clerk Mentors

As a law clerk with our firm, summer associates are assigned a mentor as their go-to person within the firm.  Mentors will review drafts of work product before a final copy is submitted to the assigning attorney, to better benefit from his or her experience. Mentors also conduct regular meetings with summer associates to discuss attorney evaluations of work assignments. He/she will help introduce summer associates to our firm culture by introducing them to other attorneys in the firm, accompanying them to social activities and ensuring their time with us is as meaningful as possible.
